I am currently a lecturer (Asst. Professor) within the University of Haifa, Faculty of Education. I direct the 'Future Learning Spaces' center, which is housed within the Faculty of Education and is part of the LINKS I-CORE Center. I am a co-PI on grant sponsored by the Israeli Science Foundation and Ministry of Education entitled "Taking Citizen Science to School". I am spending the 2018-2019 academic year at SUNY Albany as a visiting scholar (Marie Curie Global Fellowship from the European Commission).
Along these lines, I have several research projects around the notion of FLSs. These include:
- Designing classroom knowledge building communities that are not just idea-centered, but also person-centered. This stems from my belief (and some empirical evidence supporting it) that transformational learning attends to people's’ knowledge, experiences, and selves both within the classroom and outside of it. Hence you can see why FLSs is relevant...
- Working with Augmented Reality (AR) Sandboxes to teach topographical and navigational competencies to kids. The AR Sandbox is a great tool that allows people to experience different places without leaving the classroom.
- Mapping the terrain of Future Learning Spaces to better understand what types of FLSs are out there and how we can get a handle on these to understand their functions, designs, and the conceptual ideas of learning that they express.
- Designing for authenticity, which is a project I have worked on for nearly three years with Ornit Sagy about different approaches that researchers have taken to give students in classrooms access to intended cultural practices.
